The History of Robusta Coffee Development after the Conflict in Lamno, Aceh Jaya

Abstract

Lamno, Aceh Jaya is known for its agricultural sector in the Sabet village, which is famous for coffee cultivation to support the local economy. The aim of this study is to know the history of caffee farming before the conflict in Lamno, the history of coffee farming during the conflict, the condition of coffee farming after the conflict, and strategies and challenges for coffee development in Sabet village. The intruments used in this study are observation, interview, and documentation.  The obtained data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that coffee cultivation in Sabet village has existed since the Dutch colonial era, but in 1942 when the Dutch left Indonesia and the Japanese entered Indonesia. Sabet village is one of the villages that experienced ongoing conflict between the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and the Indonesian government (RI) after the military emergency on May 19th, 2003, the agricultural conditions in Sabet village were very concerning because of the many risks and obstacles experienced by the community, especially farmers who went to the fields. The development of the Robusta coffee in Sabet village after the conflict. Various government and private institutions have helped restore the economy and advance coffee plantations. The government has provided support for farmers, including wire for fencing seedlings for planting and fertilizer assistance.
