Abstract

The tёt apam tradition is a tradition passed down from our ancestors and is still practiced today. Khanduri apam on the first day of death is a traditional khanduri given to the spirit of the deceased. This study aims to understand the process of tёt apam, its meaning and symbols, and the community's views on the tёt apam tradition on the first day of death. This research was conducted in Gampong Teugoh Musa, Bandar Baru District, Pidie Jaya Regency. The methods used were observation, interviews, and documentation. Furthermore, the data obtained were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions were drawn. The results of this study indicate that the tёt apam process uses rice milled into flour. After milling, the flour is dried in the sun to create a smooth, chewy dough. Rice flour and coconut milk are mixed with water and salt, then poured into a clay container using a ladle. When the apam dough is cooked, holes are visible. The dough is then removed and placed on a tray lined with banana leaves. The intended meaning is an expression of gratitude for Allah's blessings and also a form of charity. On the first day of death, people believe that apam symbolizes an umbrella in the afterlife, as its round shape resembles an umbrella. The public view of the tёt apam tradition on the first day after death is very positive because this tradition does not conflict with Islam, is intended as charity, not as an offering, and has a positive impact.
